Hercules House is an advocate for strength, resilience and courage, reflecting the core values that are represented by Hercules in Greek mythology.

Hercules is renowned for being physically strong and more importantly that he applied his strength for what he felt was fair and just. Hercules wasn’t afraid of facing challenging or difficult situations, it was more important to him to do the right thing, and with his powerful force and positive attitude he was able to achieve seemingly impossible tasks. Our Hercules students show similar tenacity when it comes to learning and will never give up on their quest for knowledge and advancement.  You will always find a herculean going the extra mile to complete difficult tasks and showing great courage in the spirit of progress.

The Hercules House logo captures this sense of resilience and the belief that real strength is borne with responsibility.  The logo depicts Hercules completing the tenth of his twelve labours, when Hercules was said to have gone beyond the limits of the known world to retrieve some cattle by splitting a mountain so creating the pillars of Hercules, often now thought to be the Strait of Gibraltar. Our Hercules students approach learning with the same sense of resilience and do not recognise a limit to their abilities, they open up their minds in the same way Hercules opened up the world and will always bounce back in the face of adversity. The famous sculpture on which the house logo is created also represents global unity and peace, with Hercules having created the pillars there is also responsibility for connecting the known world with the unknown world.  Our herculean students bring the same sense of honour and fairness to the school, welcoming the unknown as part of an adventure that will bring improved opportunities for themselves and the rest of the school community.

Hercules is now immortalised as a star constellation and, just as Hercules is one of the most famed in Greek mythology, his constellation contains one of the most celebrated objects of summer night skies. There is a great cluster of stars in the Hercules constellation that form one of the brightest objects in space. Our herculean stars shine just as brightly and when joined together as a house make a lasting impression on the wider school community that is clearly visible for all to see.
